Letters to William

Dear William,

On behalf of the Western Cape Indoor & Field Archery Association (WCIFAA) I wish to thank you for all your efforts and advice given at the training camp held at the Hermanus Field Archery Club the past weekend.

I know that you have a heavy work load and how much time you already put into archery, especially to the benefit of others. We are very grateful that you made yourself available for a whole weekend, without any fee charged or financial benifit, traveled so far and most of all that you had to spend the weekend away from your family. When I initially approached you with the request to come visit us and to conduct a training seminar/camp, I did not realize what a huge success it would turn out to be.

We are truly privileged to have you as a friend and to have gained access to your vast knowledge and experience as a world class archer. Your methods, positive attitude and humility were truly inspirational. I have had lots of feedback from our archers since yesterday and I can sense a new and definite energy and eagerness amongst the archers to take their abilities to the next level.

The “classroom”- based discussions on the various aspects of equipment and set-up, shooting style, advice on course management and the mental aspects of the sport were very constructive and I am sure that our archers learned a lot and will benefit a huge amount from it. I particularly noticed that they focused and concentrated on every word you spoke. The notes you provided came in very handy and most of the archers also made their own notes on the topics that you discussed in extreme detail. I suspect that they will study those notes with great diligence. I was particularly impressed with the way that you explained things and how easy you made it to execute the advice on a practical level. It is obvious that you have the ability and the gift to transfer, the sometimes very technical, knowledge and information into practice.

It was very pleasing to see how eager the archers were to get to the shooting range after the lunch break in order to try out their newly gained knowledge and to put those “secrets and tricks” that you shared to the test. I know that you spent lots of time with each archer on an individual basis over the two days on the range and I know how much they appreciate it. I was worried that the 30 archers we booked for the course would be two many to handle, but you made time for each and everyone. You added value not only the younger and less experienced archers, but also added significantly to the more experienced archers.

On a personal note I also wish to thank you for all your help and advise, not just this weekend, but over the last couple of months since I realized that I have that dreaded disease called target panic. Before this weekend I did not touch my bow for two weeks, as I though I could not shoot straight anymore. Attending your seminar just made me feel positive again and it showed in the scores I shot in the two 14 butt rounds we had after lunch on the Saturday and the Sunday. I can not wait for next week’s competition in your part of the country.

Thank you so much!!!
Yours truly,
Dirk van Niekerk-President Western Cape Indoor & Field Archery Association

Hi William
I am sure I speak on behalf of all that attended the workshop in thanking you for volunteering your time, energy and knowledge so generously.
I felt we left with much knowledge that will stand us all in good stead.
The analysing of individual shooting styles was very beneficial to all. Going over rules was also important.
Your secrets and several tips on archery were new and informative. (Everyone I spoke to seemed much more confident when shooting the 80yrd target.)
I valued your input on archery etiquette, especially when moving on and off the line which I will not forget.
I feel I should mention, that I have only shot on two field courses, namely Stellenbosch and Hermanus and have found the Hermanus course far more challenging, mainly because of the many steep uphill targets and at times the windy conditions.
Ps… I took your advice on adjusting my shoulder and am still trying to keep it down, but will persevere.
Looking forward to seeing you on the shooting line.
Kind regards
Andrew

Dear William,
We have never met, so please excuse my presumptiveness in writing to you.
I want to take the opportunity to thank you very much indeed for the support and assistance you recently gave to one of our young East Cape archers, Anton-Pierre Swart. As you will have discovered already, he is a likeable young man and very determined to succeed.
It is the type of interest that you have shown, and the support that you have offered that makes this sport the truly wonderful one it is.

Good luck.
Yours sincerely, Dave Wallace
EC Provincial Coach.

Dear William & Angela Brown
I want to thank both of you for all the help and support you gave to Ancel during the last couple of months. Your advice and guidance made it possible for her to reach new heights in archery. As you know she broke the SA Records in the CGFS( C ) Indoor, Field and Hunter. With your guidance I know that Ancel will do very well and will become an even better archer.

Thank you
Ian Morgenrood
